Follow this process to soften butter quickly without melting it. You’ll have room temperature butter in about 10 minutes.
This is an invaluable tip that will come in handy when you are about to begin a recipe (or you are in the middle of one…been there!) and you discover that you need room temperature, softened butter NOW.
Plate (Optional, Preferred)
Pan of Water or Oven
Step #1 – Heat A Glass
Start with a drinking glass that is taller than your stick of butter. Heat the glass. You can do this by dumping it into a boiling pan of water for a minute or two. You also can heat it in your oven or toaster oven for a couple of minutes.
Step #2 – Position The Butter
While the glass is heating, place the butter vertically on a plate or on the counter. Even though the plate is optional, it allows you to move the butter more easily. Also, cleanup is quicker if you use a plate.
Step #3 – Start Softening
Place the heated glass over the butter. In a few minutes the stick of butter will be super soft, but not melted.
